History

The complete PhotoDesk version change history.

Version 2.3.7

Features:

  • Added support for importing Favorite Friends
  • Added support for importing Favorite Tags
  • Added support for importing Favorite Places (due to a bug in 2.3.6, it is impossible to import Favorite Places generated in versions of Photodesk prior to 2.3.7)

Changes:

  • Improved the speed of loading images in the Detail View (a lot!)
  • Pressing reload in the Detail View will now not only reload the comments but also the current user information, follow status as well as teh current image.
  • The auto completion list in the comment popup now always shows the author of the image in question as the first result.
  • When an image is not loading in the Detail View, pressing cmd+R (for reload) will force a reload of the image.
  • Changed the Popover Comment Window so that it appears at a more deterministic place when being triggered via keyboard shortcuts for a selection. I.e. if an image is selected, and "c" is pressed, the window will not appear at the mouse position but at the lower center of the image that is selected.
  • Added new information to the Detail View so that one can see the username and the full name of the user that shot the image.
  • Added initial support for users that are tagged in an image. Currently, only the usernames are listed, their location on screen is not yet displayed, this will be added in a future release.

Bugfixes:

  • Fixed a lot of issues where Photodesk accidentally used the full name instead of the username: Favorite Friends, Download Filenames, Icon View, Detail View, and more.
  • Fixed a bug which caused the follow / follower information to be incorrect in certain situations.
  • Fixed a bug where the icon view would not work anymore when triggering multiple reloads in the detail view
  • Fixed a bug that caused Photodesk to sometimes freeze for some users for short periods of time
  • Fixed a bug that caused several of the keyboard shortcuts ("C", "L", etc) to sometimes not work in icon view. This usually happened when the user was in tag or places view.
  • Fixed a bug where a the Popover Comment window would sometimes not close when pressing ESC.
  • Fixed a bug in Export Favorite Places that withheld critical information.
  • Fixed a bug that would cause Photodesk to not work correctly after startup in rare circumstances.

  • Fixed the bug where the "reply" button would show the wrong text
  • Made the username in the user detail view selectable again
  • Fixed a bug that caused the app to crash on 10.7, Lion upon startup

Version 2.3.5

  • Add Tags to Images: You can now right click one or more images and add your already defined favorite sidebar tags as a tag comment to an image. This allows you to quickly tag your own images with your most beloved tags.
  • Icon View Full Keyboard Navigation: C = Add Comment, L = Like or Unlike, K = only Like, D = open in detail view, Q = quicklook preview, left arrow = previous image, right arrow = next image.
  • Export Favorite Friends / Favorite Tags: There're new functions for exporting favorite friends and favorite tags. These can then be used, for example, in statistical processing.

New Features:

  • Set Distance when searching in Map View. Now you can define for Map View searches how detailed you want the search region to be
  • When downloading images, the caption, tags, and the location data will now be stored as IPTC data

  • New keyboard shortcut: "C" to add a comment to an image, add comments without touching the mouse: (1) Click "C" to enter the comment view, (2) enter your comment, (3) hit command+enter to submit your comment, (4) hit ESC to close the comment window, (5) use the arrow keys to navigate to the next image
  • Added a "Deny All" button in the Requests View

Changes:

  • Rewrote parts of the news system. For the most recent images, the news system should now deliver much more precise and better news.
  • Added the ability to also add comments from the comment template system for just one image. This makes it easy to define comment templates with various tags and easily add them to your images
  • The sidebar now reloads its information (Follows, Followers, Pictures) much quicker
  • The "Private account, do you want to request to follow" box can now be turned off. After that, clicking "Follow" will automatically follow a person or request followship. Visiting a private profile will show the profile with a follow button and not display the popup box.
  • Added better error messages when network errors with the Instagram servers happen
  • Rewrote the underlying code for following people. It better displays the current state now (attempting to follow, requesting folloship, requested followship).
  • Changed the blue progress indicator at the bottom to more reliably show when the app is loading data
  • Added a notification in the map view for a particular user if none of the images of that user contain any location information
  • Slightly improved the memory footprint of the app
  • A slew of networking changes that should, overall, result in much faster image and data load times.
  • Also managed to reduce the amount of requests necessary for normal operation, so the app should be able to continue working longer without running into the 5000 requests limit
  • Simplified some parts of the UI
  • Removed Support for Snow Leopard. This is because by now Snow Leopard users are a very small fraction of the PhotoDesk users, and Lion - which is also already quite old - brought a lot of good technologies which allow for lots of cool features.

  • Added more functionality to the menu bar icon.
  • Greatly improved the feedback dialog

  • Added support for maps for each view. There's now a new view mode that shows you the images aligned on a map.
  • The image detail view now has a mini map that allows you to see where the image in question was shot
  • New Category - Places: Here, you can search for locations to see which pictures were being shot there. You can also store favorite places in the sidebar.

Features:

  • Added a new filter mode. It allows you to filter the current visible images based on type (image / video), whether they contain geo information, amount of likes, and amount of comments.
  • Added a new preferences that allows you to set the size of the font that is being used for the image icon views
  • Added more keyboard navigation options to the icon views:
    - Left Arrow now takes the selection to the next element on the left
    - Right Arrow now takes the selection to the next element on the right
That way, you can navigate through images and like them accordingly without touching the mouse.
Important, the mouse hover has priority over the visible selection. So if you have one item selected, and you hover over another item, the hovered item will be liked / unliked if you press ‘L’. So when you want to use the keyboard to hover through your images and like / open them, make sure that you’re not accidentally hovering over an image.

Version 2.2.5

Features:

  • Added the 'k' key to the shortcuts. This will only like the current image, but not unlike it if it is already liked.
  • When downloading multiple items, and there're videos in there, PhotoDesk will now download the videos instead of the images for these items

Changes:

  • Added an error message that appears if an item cannot be liked anymore because the user hit the like limit on Instagram.
  • Added an error message that appears if the Instagram token / session is turned invalid on the Instagram side. In that case, it is required to reset the token by going to the Instagram website and revoking access for PhotoDesk.
  • Added higher delays for the multi-like and multi-comment functionality. The reasoning behind this is, that Instagram has a ghost follower / bot detector now, and when you like too many items too fast in a row, your account will be flagged. PhotoDesk tries to insert delays beween multiple likes so that you like less over a certain period of time and thus can't flag your account.

Bugfixes:

  • Fixed a bug that could sometimes lead to 100% cpu in any view

Until this is working, the old InstaDesk sharing mechanism and the Mountain Lion sharing mechanism will be displayed side by side (click the 'more' button to access the Mountain Lion sharing in the share dialoge). When Mountain Lion adds Facebook Sharing (presumably this Fall) InstaDesk will switch to the new system completely.

  • The popover comment controller from the feed view now respects the comment sort order when opening the 'add comment' text box.
